Anti-Retroviral Therapy

The Anti-Retroviral Distribution, Monitoring, and Support (ARV) program finances the cost of anti-retroviral regimens and coordinates weekly follow up with every patient to monitor, provide support, and report adherence to the treatment.

The first objective of The Initiative's ARV program is to finance the cost of ARV regimens per month for individuals living both in extreme poverty (defined as living on less than 1.00 USD per day) and with HIV/AIDS. The regimens are often difficult to tolerate and require intense monitoring and support.

The second objective of ARV program is to train patients, referred to as accompagnateurs, to play a supportive and monitoring role to those receiving these medications. Each accompagnateur conducts home visits to observe and provide support to each participant. Like all home visit team members, accompagnateurs work closely with the medical director and his staff to provide essential drug-specific information and to ensure that members are taking drug regimens correctly.
