Initiatives

Goal: to develop and expand community-based health care systems that provide the highest possible standard of support and treatment for the poor.

Effective Use of Local Resources
In order to provide affordable and effective HIV treatment in poverty settings, HTH Initiatives leverage community resources by using existing medical and technological interventions in innovative ways. Initiatives seek to supplement rather than replicate the limited care offered by public health facilities in the region. For approximately $240 per year per patient, Initiatives are able to provide free comprehensive medical services to those who previously had little or no access.

Overcoming Barriers to Care
Our experience suggests that early detection and treatment yield a better prognosis at a reduced cost. The key is finding ways to get individuals tested and seeking treatment early. The success of HTH Initiatives is predicated on addressing and overcoming barriers to care, which prevent individuals from seeking treatment. These barriers include a lack of education regarding the virus, reluctance to treat people living with HIV/AIDS, unwillingness to seek care due to costs and distrust, and most importantly, wide-spread poverty. As a result, HTH Initiatives are committed to developing innovative and effective approaches, advocating treatment agendas, educating communities, and reducing costs of health services through the elimination of user fees.

HTH Initiatives provide comprehensive medical care and support to individuals regardless of their ability to pay.
